The rapid advancements in the technology of contact lenses and their care systems provide far-reaching benefits, making it easier than ever to be successful when fitting our contact lens patients. Even so, it’s imperative to remember that the patient is a “factor” in this advancing technology. Practitioners must not forget to educate patients in the how’s and why’s of advancing technology; even the most basic, simple explanation can mean better success for both the wearer and the fitter.

Introducing OPTI-FREE® PureMoist® MPDS
One of the latest advances is the introduction of OPTI-FREE® Puremoist® MPDS from Alcon. Most every contact lens care product claims excellent disinfection, reduced deposits, and makes comfort claims. OPTI-FREE® PureMoist® MPDS actually delivers on those promises.

The proprietary
HydraGlyde® Moisture Matrix addresses the issue of surface wettability of silicone hydrogel materials in a novel way. The HydraGlyde® Moisture Matrix was specially designed to surround the lens surface, thus making the entire surface hydrophilic and wettable.1

One of the challenges encountered with some silicone hydrogel materials is a tendency for lipid deposition. These deposits can be somewhat elusive, sliding around the lens surface, yet adhering to it with a glue-like stickiness. Patients may complain of reduced comfort and visual disturbances due to these lipids. OPTI-FREE® PureMoist® Solution incorporates an advanced cleaning system which effectively removes protein deposits and reduces lipid deposition.2

The cleaning ability of the solution is complemented with the ALDOX® and POLYQUAD® dual disinfection system that has been shown to be effective against a wide range of micro-organisms, including activity against both cysts and trophs of Acanthamoeba.3,4

Fitting your patients with the newest and best lenses on the market is only part of a successful strategy. Combining those advanced lenses with an advanced lens care that will help keep your patients safe and healthy—all by recommending a solution that is designed to provide comfort and moisture from insertion to removal.
